Westchester County travelers have four realistic airports to choose from, and picking the right one can save you an hour of driving, open up cheaper or non-stop flights, and make the difference between a relaxed departure and a stressful one. The four options are Westchester County Airport (HPN) in White Plains, LaGuardia (LGA), John F. Kennedy International (JFK), and Newark Liberty (EWR). Here is how to decide between them.
By drive time from central Westchester: HPN is closest by far — 5–10 minutes from White Plains and 10–30 minutes from most of the county. LaGuardia is the closest major airport, roughly 35–90 minutes depending on the town and the Whitestone Bridge. JFK runs about 50–110 minutes, and Newark about 50–90 minutes via the Cross Bronx and George Washington Bridge. For Hudson-side and Rockland towns, Newark is often the same distance as JFK or closer.
By trip type: LaGuardia is purely domestic — ideal for East Coast, Midwest, Florida, and the Delta/American/United hubs, but it has no international flights. JFK has the widest international network on the East Coast plus JetBlue’s transcontinental Mint service. Newark is United’s major hub, with a deep international schedule (especially Europe) and strong domestic coverage. HPN serves a smaller set of non-stops — JetBlue, Delta, American, and United to Florida, the Carolinas, and key business hubs — but when your route is on that list, nothing beats a 10-minute drive.
Beyond distance: the closest airport is not always the best value. A non-stop from a slightly farther airport usually beats a connection from the nearest one, and international premium-cabin fares out of Newark or JFK can undercut a positioning flight.
